Tips

• How to Line Up a Putt Using the Point N Putt Putter
  • Gently rest the putter head on the putting green directly behind the golf ball.
  • With a light grip pressure and relaxed body use your right hand (for right hand golfers) to point the Directional Pointer along the intended putting line. Note the ease with which you can definitively line up the putt by using the Directional Pointer as opposed to “generally aim” with other putters.
  • You have now picked the line, so lightly connect your left hand to the putter (right hand for lefties). Then align your feet and shoulders to the line. You are now ready to putt. You will see how easy, natural and positive it is when you just point and putt.

A Secret Golf Putting Tip from the Inventor – After pinpointing the putting line with the directional pointer, and with your head directly over the ball, keep it very still and do not look up until you have finished your putting stroke.

• Reading a Putting Green and Understanding How a Putt Breaks
A perfectly struck putt that is not properly read will not go in to the hole. Over half of the putts you miss are because you have improperly judged the speed and line of the putt. The most critical factor in understanding how much a putt is going to break is the speed of your putt. Speed and Line go hand in hand; remember all putts are straight until the ball loses speed. The slope of the green and the way a putt breaks should be identified visually and then confirmed and felt with your feet. Look for the low points of the green and determine where the water of the putting green would drain if it were wet. This will help you identify which way a putt may move when it loses speed. Most amateur golfers do not read enough break, especially putts that break severely.

A PNP Golf Putting Tip – Play more break and use less speed on severe breaking putts to increase your chances of holing the putt and/or leaving yourself a tap in two putt.
• How to Read the Grain in Grass
On extremely grainy greens reading a putt can be twice as hard. The grain on the grass can reduce the length of a 3 foot putt up to four or five inches.

A PNP Golf Putting Tip – when playing greens with a lot of grain remember that the grain of the grass will follow the sun. If you are uncertain as to which way a putt will break on grainy greens look into the sky and wherever the sun is know that the putt will be influenced in that direction.
• Ball Position
Having the golf ball properly positioned in your stance can have a major impact on your stroke. A golf ball positioned too far back of center will cause you to hit down on the ball causing it to pop up in the air with unwanted spin and usually off of your intended line. We suggest your ball position at a minimum should be in the middle of your stance but preferably the ball will rest somewhere under your heart. With the golf ball under your heart or slightly forward of center you will strike the putt on the upswing of your arc which will allow the golf ball to roll sooner rather than hop or skid.
• Grip Pressure
Proper grip pressure on the golf club is critical. Jack Nicklaus suggested you hold the golf club like you are holding a tube of toothpaste that you don’t want to squeeze anything out of. If you squeeze the golf club too hard you will create tension in the hands and forearms and ultimately the entire body. Tension is a killer, especially on and around the greens so while holding your Point N Putt putter do so with relaxed hands and think soft, light grip pressure.
